Lifting Supervisor

Ensure that the riggers, the Crane Operator and any other person involved in the lift are familiar with and follow the safe system of work and the details and limitations recorded in the lifting plan.

Job Description:

Job title: Lifting Supervisor

Location: Anbar / Akkaz Oilfield

Responsibilities: 

  • Ensure that the riggers, the Crane Operator and any other person involved in the lift are familiar with and follow the safe system of work and the details and limitations recorded in the lifting plan.
  •  Ensure Tower Crane Operators’ working hours do not exceed the operating criteria.
  •  Check and ensure proper ground conditions are suitable and safe for any lifting operations.
  •  Confirm Crane Operators are suitably trained and competent (if not inform Crane Co-Ordinator and Section Manager)
  •  Verifying the safe working load (SWL) is never exceeded, other than for the express purpose of testing a crane under the supervision of a competent person. 
  • Ensure cranes do not operate in any weather conditions that exceed the limit stated for that type of crane. 
  • Ensure the assessment and planning of lifting operations is undertaken and complies with the requirements of the COMPANY lifting operations procedure.
  •  A verify and sufficient risk assessment has been carried out, which considers all aspects of the lift including environmental factors such as the proximity of obstructions, underground services, overhead cables and structures.
  •  Ensure lift plans and method statements for the lifting operation are appropriate.
  •  Verify appropriate protection measures are put in place. 
  •  Confirm a thorough examination and/or test record has been issued and is available for each item of lifting equipment and accessory. 
  • Confirm the SWL of the lifting equipment and accessories is adequate for the weight of the load. 
  • Confirm all lifting accessories are clearly marked with their safe working load. 
  • Correct and up-to-date copies of the Sling Chart and Safe Working Load tables are available when using multi-leg slings.
  •  Ensure the method of communication is agreed and understood by everyone involved in the lift.
  •  Ensure a trained and competent rigger is available. 
  •  Ensure all personnel involved in the lifting operation have been briefed and understand the risks, methods or work and the equipment to be used, including emergency arrangements.
  •  Ensure the crane will be capable of lifting the required loads at the maximum required radius of operation. 
  • Check that there is a rescue plan in place and that it is acceptable in terms of practicality. 
  • Check the competence, including training and qualifications, of the competent person involved in lifting operations.

Candidate Requirements:

 Education and Training: Rigger Training
 Licenses & Certificates: LEEA Certified or similar.


 Pertinent Special Skills:
 1. Good ability to read, write speak and understand English
 2. Ability to work with several nationalities
 Pertinent Work Experience:
 1. Experience in Lifting activities as a lifting foreman / Mobile or Tower Crane Operator
 2. 10 to 15 Years experience in lifting activities
