Purpose & Accountabilities:
To support the Head of Treasury in managing the company Treasury function and ensuring that banking and treasury activities are managed in compliance with the company Treasury Policy.
This role is for an individual with a strong treasury operations background and experience in implementing best practice treasury processes.
The venture the largest flare gas reduction project in the world, and has a mix of sizeable gas operations, major rehabilitation work and significant project spend in a fast-changing country environment.
Against this complexity, robust treasury processes (e.g. cash forecasting, payments, reconciliation of bank accounts, bank mandates, cash management, FX risks, etc) are required to ensure the venture maintains the mandate delegated by shareholders. The individual will bring core treasury skills to help build and develop majority Iraqi Treasury Team.
Provide experience and direct coaching/training to Iraqi local staff and more broadly across the Finance and IT functions.
The role is a unique opportunity for a Treasury professional looking to gain experience in an operational environment and develop skills across a broad range of treasury/finance competencies.
Review and monitor foreign exchange exposures. Actively seek competitive exchange rates for material foreign exchange conversions. Operationalise FX conversion process for foreign currency payments.
Provide accurate cash forecasting to support decision making. Work closely with Projects and Production teams to drive transparency on commitments and cash requirements. Deliver quality Management Information with focus on liquidity both on a short and medium-term basis highlighting risks and mitigations.
Review and update policies (Treasury, Credit, Imprest) reflecting treasury best practices.
Support credit team in managing credit risk through the strengthening of credit assessment process.
Review existing treasury processes and propose improvements based on treasury best practice.
Support closure of audit action items pertaining to Treasury.
Drive effective utilisation of cash resources by optimising working capital requirements, investment of cash surplus in accordance with the company Treasury Policy and use of banking facilities. Manage counterparty credit risk to avoid excessive concentration of funds and risk.
Review and optimise end-to-end payments process and set measurable targets (KPIs) to drive reduction in payments cycle.
Propose and support implementation of non-cash based reimbursement solutions for staff travel.
Retender cash management contract and ensure seamless transition in case a new cash management bank is appointed.
Actively support company integration agenda by providing direct and daily training and coaching of local Iraqi staff. Take a leading role in standardization, simplification and improvement of work processes to ensure quality finance support to the business.
Skills & Requirements
Need to be flexible, adaptable and responsive to changing business environment. Also need to know when and how to effectively take firm positions.
Have a strong interest in coaching others and the patience and dedication to train staff despite language barriers and regardless of starting level. Ability to work effectively with diverse, multidiscipline teams from all levels of the organization.
Prior experience with implementation of insurance policies (CAR, Operational, Marine) is a plus.
Treasury knowledge; particularly the implementation of treasury processes, banking including IT systems (Trax), working capital, cash forecasting, credit risk, 3rd party financing.
Arabic Language: Arabic language skills would be a strong advantage – but is not a prerequisite - as well as cultural familiarity/experience in the middle east.
Strong computer and ERP systems skills particularly with proven ability to take financial data and use it to produce clear, simple, explanatory reports for non-financial staff.
Able to combine high level strategic thinking with a simple pragmatic approach when required.
Good interface skills to gain respect and regularly work alongside Commercial, Project and Asset Management teams.
Strong Customer and Stakeholder focus.
5 years relevant experience in business facing finance roles.
Finance qualification: ACCA, CIMA, AMCT or equivalent.
