1. Job Purpose 

The IT Applications Support Specialist is responsible for the day-to-day support of IT Services. Support may be provided both to users of the systems and to service delivery functions. Support typically takes the form of investigating and resolving problems and providing information about the systems. Problems may be resolved by providing advice or training to users about an application’s functionality. Resolution may also require devising work-arounds, correcting faults, making general or site-specific modifications, updating system documentation, manipulating data, or defining enhancements – often in close collaboration with the system’s developers and the Application Projects team.

4. Principal Work Accountabilities

·      Follow application support processes ensuring that all requests for support are dealt with according to agreed procedures and standards

·      Ensure license management is applied

·      Fulfil ad-hoc user requests

·      Participate, from initiation of projects, in Transition-to-Support (TTS) activities for new applications 

·      Apply Information Security procedures, as directed by Information Security Management, to enhance resilience to unauthorised access 

·      Ensure records and documentation are maintained and available

·      Maintain specific security controls as required by Information Security management policy and local risk assessments to maintain confidentiality, integrity and availability of business information systems 

 

5. Knowledge & Requirements

·      Educated to at least degree level likely in information technology, minimum IT-related college degree

·      Possesses general understanding of business applications and business processes

·      Skilled with the principles and practices involved in application development and maintenance 

·      Skilled in service delivery

·      Strong English speaking skills

·      Communicates well, both orally and in writing

·      Demonstrates knowledge of information security principles

·      Knowledgeable in the systems development life cycle

·      Knowledgeable in software platforms

·      Has a good understanding of the system interfaces

·      Displays a responsible attitude to following procedures and keeping records

·      Has an analytical and creative approach to problem solving

·      Strong leadership and change management capabilities

·      Team player, works effectively with all levels in organization (business & IT)
