Power Technician – Operations

The Power Operations Technicianwill report directly to the Shift Supervisor(Power Generation and Distribution), his day-to-day responsibilities will include: Safe operations and troubleshooting of Diesel Generating Sets (CAT) to ensure power availability without any power interruption to theoil field facilities during shift charge duration. Scope covers CAT Diesel Generators sets, its auxiliary system, switchgear, power distribution and control system,monitoring and modifying Power Generation and Distributionvariables, front-line maintenance and aiding maintenance teams in maintenance programs, testing and operating Diesel GeneratorPower Plantand Distribution switchgears.

Job Description:

Position title : Power Technician- Operations

Position status  : LN

Position reports to : Shift Supervisor-Power

Department : Maintenance/ Power Generation and Distribution 

Rotation pattern : 7/7

Duties and responsibilities 

  • Monitor, operate, and maintain Diesel Generator Power Plant.
  • Reads and records daily data from the DG, completes required paperwork (e.g. equipment logs, Energy readings …etc.); 
  • Conducts routine checkups of all equipment and units to ensure the proper functioning in accordance with standard operating procedure and conditions.
  • Troubleshoot DG problems and make minor adjustments to keep Generation units on line.
  • Able to understand and working in Power Management System Like SCADA, DCS and PLC …etc. 
  • Periodically monitor DG running parameters and report abnormal to concern supervisor for corrective action. 
  • Monitor and operate Gas turbines, Diesel Engines, Generators, Generators circuit Breakers, switchgear and Protection system  
  • Work with Numerical Protection Relays in Alarms/Trips event reading for report trouble to relevant supervisors 
  • Have experience in plant start up, troubleshooting and normal operation.
  • Actively supports HSE processes by accomplishing daily activities within applicable regulations and policies, carrying out duties in an environmentally conscious manner, following safe operating practices, maintaining a safe working environment, and being prepared to respond to emergencies.
  • Reports Unsafe acts and/or conditions, no matter in what area of responsibility, so corrective actions can be taken
  • Coordinate with the contractor companies and monitor their activities in power generation area as per the procedure, intervene in case of negative observation.

Qualification & Training requirements

Diploma in Electrical Engineering. or Secondary school followed by at least Two -year technical institute education in one of the following specialties: Electrical Discipline

Experience 

5 years of overall general work experience in Diesel Power Generators within the oil & gas industry in a field-based position including at least 3 years of experience in the operations of DGs

Language proficiency, computer and software skills

Intermediate knowledge of MS Office: 

English –intermediate (verbal & written)
