Job title Petrophysicist
Work Schedule 14/14 (LN)
Department PE Department
Job purpose
Petrophysicist is part of the Petroleum Engineering Department. The primary job purpose is the evaluation
of subsurface data in support of data acquisition operations for exploration, appraisal and development
drilling. The petrophysicist is also required to provide technical input for the maturation of well proposals
and well functional specification and the petrophysical work for well delivery planning and operations.
Duties and responsibilities
● Designate as specialist in the area of Petrophysics (Formation evaluation from logs). Provide
guidelines and directions to all assets on potential areas for logging program, acquisition, QC and
interpretation. Defines and updates workflows, methodologies and procedures for any logging issues.
● Provide technical support and advice for formation evaluation, perforation interval selection and
required petrophysicist input.
● Understands and promotes the company’s health, safety & environmental policy and objectives;
performs work in accordance with the company’s established rules, regulations and approved
procedures.
● Works effectively with reservoir, petroleum, and drilling engineers, G&G and rig personnel.
● Participates in well planning and assists with development of pre-drill documentation packages (i.e.
designs and provides logging program, identifies potential logging hazards, etc.).
● Performs log analysis using both quick-look methods to support real-time decision making from logs,
and advanced “field study quality” interpretations using a Petrophysical workflow.
● Provides log analysis results and input to perforation and testing interval recommendations.
● Works with geoscientists and engineers to incorporate log analysis results in interpretations.
● Performs operations activities during drilling (i.e. pre-logging job planning with Petrophysical
contractors on rig(s), training and monitoring of Petrophysical contract personnel, interface with
other Geoscience, Engineering, and Drilling personnel).
● Provides on-site supervision, QC, and analysis of wireline logging operations.
● Performs the job of core planning, core analysis both RCAL and SCAL and incorporating the results
with the Log data and update the Petrophysical model for each reservoir.
● Maintains and ensures accuracy and completeness of Petrophysical databases.
● Contributes to the enhancement of existing and future Petrophysical analysis models.
● Provides input to support development of reservoir surveillance strategies.
● Participates in development of reservoir surveillance logging programs (i.e. develop wireline logging
procedure for production, corrosion, and other rig-less cased-hole logging activity, identify potential
logging hazards, etc.).
● Provides input to support development of rig based and rig-less well intervention programs.
● Provides operational and technical support for Wireline Formation Testing (MDT) acquisition
programs and data analysis.
● Provides operational and technical support for Production Logging (PLT) acquisition programs and
data analysis.
● Provides operational and technical support for Cement Evaluation Logging (CBL/VDL-USIT) acquisition
programs, data analysis and interpretations.
● Provides written input for post-drill well reports.
● Develops scope of work for tendering of Petrophysical services and analyzes tenders.
● Monitors logging contractors and invoices processing.
● Assists with preparation and stewardship of Geoscience Group and Petroleum engineers.
● Multicultural and multinational work environment.
● Demonstrates awareness and commitment to safety.
